Piano Lessons in Eastbourne / Singing Lessons in Eastbourne
Students of all ages and abilities, from the raw beginner to the advanced diploma student are welcome here as I have a wealth of experience in all these areas, as well as in teaching students with specific needs such as dyslexia and visual impairment.
Student successes include achieving music scholarships at Bede’s and Eastbourne College and going on to study music in higher education, including at Cambridge University.
Many of my students perform at concerts and festivals. I have an excellent pass rate in entering my piano and vocal students for graded exams with well over 100 successes to date. More importantly my students thoroughly enjoy their lessons.
I was until recently keyboard tutor at Leeds College of Music for some years where I was interviewed about my work by Pianist Magazine.
I am currently the piano accompanist for Eastbourne’s Harmonia Choir.
As part of a song writing duo Baker Cowan I have co-written 4 albums. Our work has been performed on TV including Castle In The Country (BBC2) and at theatres around the UK. We wrote the dark musical ‘The Fallen Angel Show’ which we took to the Edinburgh Festival in 2015. The Fringe Review said it was a ‘magical hour of musical theatre’. We also wrote the musical play ‘Really Really Want’ which enjoyed a successful run at York Theatre Royal in November 2016 and at Komedia, Brighton, 2018.
I am delighted to be a member of Key Largo Trio performing at events and weddings. We play all styles of music from pop to classical. In this video we’re showcasing some of our favourite vintage songs.
I perform classical music in concerts…
… and solo as a pianist/singer at all kinds of public events and parties. See ccowanpianist.co.uk
I also perform as part of the quirky band Vesper Walk.
I have also been privileged to perform as a key soloist of YC Gospel Choir, at exciting venues including the Grand Opera House and Castle Howard.
Outside of piano and vocal work I also play cello with the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra.
After achieving my teaching qualification (LTCL), I went on to study piano & voice at the Birmingham Conservatoire. I was tutored by Mark Racz, now Deputy Principal at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating with a 1st class BA hons degree. Subsequently I studied at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, and undertook a Masters Degree at Manchester University.
If you ever wondered what a singing and piano teacher does in her coffee break, this is a song I recently recorded live and acoustic in my practice room in a short gap between students. 🎶
